US freestyle slalom group forms |

A group of skaters from around the US and I have started the US
Freestyle Skating Association. This includes freestyle slalom
(involving small cones), as well as other kinds of freestyle skating:
jumps, slides, dance, and any other sort of tricks you can do on skates!
We've got a decent number of people involved and, except for New
York, we're spread pretty thin. So, there are lots of small pockets
of skaters and we're looking for anyone interested to join us!
We've currently got an online forum for skate and non-skate related
conversations, particularly for organizing freestyle skate practices/
get-togethers.

We're organizing a number of events, including a Freestyle
competition next year called BattleUS, and some freestyle workshops.
Here is the introduction to our unofficial charter:
"The purpose of the United States Freestyle Skating Association
(USFSA) is to encourage, support, and teach inline and quad skaters
who are interested in freestyle slalom, dance, jumps, and slides; to
promote the growth of these sports in the United States; and to
strengthen the community of freestyle skaters. To that end, we will
organize freestyle skating competitions, events, workshops and other
activities to bring together U.S. freestyle skaters. We will host an
online forum to facilitate interaction and friendships among skaters
from all over the country, and we will strive to make other resources
available online to guide skaters in learning more about our sport.
Finally, we will continue to search for new ways to promote freestyle
skating and support the members of the USFSA."
We feel that the U.S. has the potential to offer a unique style to
the freestyle skating world by merging european freestyle slalom with
the american freestyle that has evolved from former aggressive
skaters and others looking to push the boundaries of their abilities
and creativity.
